Human bodies in March

So after a whole week of sunshine, a forty minute walk consisted of clutching on trees  and bricks trying not to be blown away or choked by one's own scarf. I could have got a bus but saving money sounded like a good idea, like it always does.

Any excuse to digi-paint...

I've always romanticized the idea of wind blowing you into another part of the world, but I've literally had so many nightmares about it nowadays its hardly my favorite weather anymore. At least until its arid and hot, when the grass will probably look greener, but that's the stuff of life.

Moving on.

Here are some images from figure drawing during March. The first couple are earlier in the month so we'll ease into later stuff I tried to focus mostly on gesture and posture this month, but I'll possibly shake things up with some light experiments

I leave you today with a glimpse of my comrades at university, busy scrawling notes/doodles during a lecture. Featuring our sharply dressed guest lecturer Christof, an actor, on the top right.

Next few sessions of human figure drawing I want to focus on using lines to emphasize force and weight including them to form.
Although the next blog post will probably be about some pre production work on our pitch idea for the third year, which we're encouraged to build up during our second term at university.

So hope you have a good week, will be back for April :)

Ilustration Machine

I've been on a Florence + Machine trip lately, just a few specific songs. What really gets me are her haunting lyrics and fearless delivery. and she's so shy and soft spoken in all her interviews. So here's a song called Blinding that I particularly couldn't get out of my head. I wanted to just upload an mp3 file, but it seems easier to upload videos so threw in some pictures with a little sample of a cover thing.
I dont own the music or pictures.

And another ode to Florence with a quick illustration of No Light No Light, just the first four five lines

As part of the second year animation module at university we're assigned to working on a film with the third year students. I can't put up actual animation shots that I've worked on but along with the animation I design and model tourists, so here are some designs of an experienced explorer, an angsty teenager and a young business woman

and some personality expressions for each of them

our curious adventurer finding his place on model (with cane)

your regular teenager hates the world using music to shut out the world. I should include headphones so complete the happy image.

And the latest model I've worked on, our young entrepreneur:

These initial designs are a bit different from her final versions, I've made here a little more serious in the later model, but a higher up nose like in the initial picture with all three tourists together.

Since she's the latest one I'm still working on her but I had some fun with creating her hair, i love what you can do with curls in Maya. some legs would be nice though.

...and more on the way

I thought I'd play with some face designs, so here's a bit from that

and none of them look particularly enthusiastic

So here's an enthusiastic baby elephant playing in muddy water and a crow telling him off. Figures of authority can be found in odd places.

and that moment when a relatively famous person offers you a high five, but you feel like you don't know them well enough and settle it with a handshake..sorry Charlie

...its not because im too short or anything

Let me finish with a commission for my friend, portraying her complicated relationships with swans. i guess the only appropriate title is "I'll never let go Jack" because she knows why.

what is it with man and beasts and our need to associate with them? i probably wont go into that any further because it sums up a 3000ish word essay i compiled for university already, and i need a break but its that sort of question without an accurate answer, like what is our obsession with the number 3.
what is my obsession about human behaviour anyway.

 ...one for the road
